A T-shirt bra can gape even when the size is close because a moulded cup keeps its own shape. If your breast does not fill that exact height, width and depth pattern, part of the cup may stand away while another part feels tight.

Most T-shirt bras use smooth moulded cups designed to keep a rounded surface beneath clothing.
Unlike a flexible unlined cup, a moulded cup does not fully reshape itself around the breast. It expects the breast to fit the cup’s preset form.

- forward depth;

- bottom curve;

Gap across most of the cup
Possible causes:
- too much volume;
- moulded shape very different from the breast;
- band too loose;
- bra not positioned correctly.

A smaller cup can make the real problem worse
Moving down a cup may pull the neckline closer to the body, but that does not prove the smaller cup fits.
Check whether it also causes:
- side spillage;
- centre spillage;
- wire pressure;
- breast tissue outside the wire;
- a floating centre;
- the cup sliding downward;
- a tighter-feeling band.

Why shallow moulded cups often create conflicting signs
Many smooth moulded bras distribute their volume across a broad, rounded shell.
A breast that needs more forward depth can push against that shell. The cup may then:
- stand away near the neckline;
- fold at the bottom;
- move down during wear;
- press at the outer edge;
- make the band feel tighter.

The best comparison bra
A useful diagnostic comparison is an unlined seamed bra in the same starting size.
Why?
- the fabric can follow the breast;
- seams create more controlled depth;
- wrinkles show where space is unused;
- pressure shows where room is missing;
- the wire position is easier to assess.
This does not mean everyone must wear unlined bras. It simply makes the first fitting diagnosis clearer.

Check the band before blaming the cup
A loose band allows the cups to move away from the chest. It can create or exaggerate a gap.
A new band should normally begin on the loosest comfortable hook so that later hooks remain available as the elastic relaxes.

- feels secure without pain;
- remains in place when the arms move;
- is not being judged only through cup pressure.

- lean forward slightly;
- bring tissue from the side into the cup;

- a style with narrower wires;

When it gaps, do not immediately reduce the cup. Check where the space appears, whether the wire surrounds the tissue, whether the cup slides down and whether a flexible bra fits more smoothly in the same size.
The best solution may be another size. It may also be another moulded shape - or a different construction entirely.
