Sister sizes keep a similar cup-volume family by changing the band and cup letter in opposite directions. When the band goes down one size, the cup letter goes up one step. When the band goes up, the cup letter goes down.

The cup letter changes because cup size is relative

A cup letter is not a fixed container size.

The rule depends on the cup sequence used by the selected system.

UK, US and EU cup letters do not always progress in the same way. The correct “one cup step” must follow the actual sequence, not alphabetical order.

For example, UK progression commonly includes double letters at specific points. A calculator must use an explicit array for each system rather than assuming the next letter in the alphabet.

The band rides up, but the cups feel good

Try 32DD. The smaller band should feel firmer while the increased cup letter preserves a similar volume family.

Try 36C. The larger band adds room while the lower cup letter keeps volume closer.

32DD may preserve the already-too-small volume. You may need 32E or another adjacent size, depending on the system and fit.

The band feels tight and the centre floats

The problem may be insufficient cup depth. Test the band independently before moving to 36C.
